Carolyn & Josh's Current Event

  • In Yushu, China Buddhists are trying to save the lives of tiny river shrimp
    • "Buddha has fought us that treating others with love and compassion is the right thing to do, no matter how tiny that life is."
    • "These specks of life could very well be the reincarnated sounds of relatives or friends who perished In The earthquake.”
      • Referring to an earthquake where 3,000 people died four years ago
        • This act could be a form of meditation for the Buddhists, focusing on one thing only for hours on end
        • Shows their devotion

  1. It's great that the Buddhist are doing all they can to help the shrimp. To them, it's part of their tasks to reach Nirvana. To me, it also wouldn't matter if the shrimps die or not because they can be reincarnated into something else until they reach Nirvana. I hope they can save most of the population of shrimp and their devotion to their belief is strong.

  2. This shows that Buddhists are compassionate and care for all life no matter how small. This truly shows the Buddhist teaching of the Noble Eightfold Path.

  3. I think that Buddhists trying to save the lives of small shrimps is an act of kindness that everyone should imitate. In our society violence is such a familiar thing that small acts of kindness seem like a big deal. Everyone should understand and learn that everyone's life is important and that it doesn't matter if they are small or large.

  4. This is great example of how Buddhists really do care for the smallest forms of life. I think more people should follow this example of saving small life forms, along with the big ones. We always hear about people helping bigger animals in the wild, but never small ones such as these shrimp.

  5. It’s nice to see people care for little creatures. I heard in the video that one of the reasons they were helping the little guys was because the people wanted to further reach nirvana because of it. Isn't that a desire and something they should avoid?

  6. Its amazing how they value even the smallest of creatures, and how much value Buddhist share for all of God's creation. This should set a great example for the rest of the world and teach everyone to value every living thing.

  7. This shows the values that Buddhists care about all living creatures no matter the significance of the creature. They are doing this to try to achieve Nirvana and hoping that saving these small shrimp could bring them one step closer to their goal.

  8. Its amazing how the Buddhist religion follows the middle way. The eightfold path which is they are using and proclaiming, without even trying too. Even though these small creates are so small they make an impact to the earth. If they did not do this then the impact would take a toll on much more than just them. Everyone has a right to life, everyone has their own practices and I am liking this practice very much.

  9. Now this IS how Buddhism works. Working together to save even the tiniest of life. This shows how Buddhists value any life, from the largest and smallest, and will work together to best preserve it.

  10. It is amazing to show how the Buddists express into the reality by their compassionate religion. The form of solution that they find through saving the shrimp is the meditation, which this form brings enhanced mentality, and peace for all people.

  11. It is nothing short of remarkable to see the Buddhist faith in action. People with jobs, families, et cetera taking the time and extensive effort all to save diminutive shrimp. It shows that they believe all life is worth saving.

  12. This clearly shows evidence of Buddhist beliefs and their values. Most people wouldn't even think to consider spending their time helping these shrimp. The importance of life is a main aspect of Buddhist religion because of their belief in reincarnation, as shown in the fact that one of them stated that the shrimp might even be the next lives of beloved ones who had already departed their previous life. The sacrificed their time in order to help these creatures as one of the Noble Eightfold paths is not to harm any living creatures. Plus, some were saying they hoped that this would boost their good karma and increase their chances of entering Nirvana. Whatever their reason, their actions are selfless.

  14. I believe this is a great sign of people trying to tae care of what is the countries. Although its only tiny little shrimp that they are trying to save, it also shows that people care and will do anything to save the little shrimp.

  15. I am happy about this because people are actually taking time so save the smallest creature. In all ecosystems, even the smallest creature matters for the survival within said ecosystem. The smallest organism disappearing from the food chain can bring the whole thing down. Thus I see extra value in the saving of even these smallest creatures.

  16. I think it is an interesting concept to go out and try to save the lives of creatures that seem do distant and removed from ourselves in our daily lives. Even though it's inconvenient, it is quite an important thing to do in the grand scope of things. It also ties into the idea that all things are connected and part of something bigger. It's very healing for them too, as they can imagine the shrimp to be the souls of their lost loved ones.

  17. This was a very touching story. No matter how small the life is, every life is valuable no matter what it is, a life is a life, and it is all sacred. But, in this case, these people do it to have a good karma in their next life. They benefit from helping for their Buddhist religion, but also they did this from the good of their hearts.

  19. No matter how small all those little shrimp are, the people still dont care and dont like the idea of them dying. This just shows how compassionate and caring Buddhists can be. They really are following the noble eightfold path.
